Federated Searching
Download EOS.Web Presentation

Federated search functionality eliminates the problems associated with having to search, one at a time, dozens of databases, each of which have their own unique search interface and password authentication. With EOS.Web Federated Searching, from a single search interface users can select any set of database sources to search, whether it be the Web, Z39.50, commercial, internal or free. Results are displayed according to source, and with a single click, the entire record is displayed in the native database.

The patented metasearch technology from our federated search partner WebFeat enables us to provide federated search capabilities, complete with OpenURL compatibility, as an option in our EOS.Web Enterprise OPAC, similar to how EOS currently provides Z39.50 cross-library searching, resulting in simplified back office operations, reduced costs, and improved access to information.

EOS.Web Federated Search additionally features:

Dynamic results - results can be sorted by a variety of options, including relevancy, date, title, author, and publisher. An innovative results shuffle option even takes advantage of content providers' own powerful relevancy.

SMART™ - an exciting COUNTER-compliant usage tracker reports a wealth of information about library database usage. Easily track a variety of key metrics, including the number of searches and full text requests, most-requested search terms, and searches by individual, library, branch, or department.

Thesaurus - transparently searches pre-selected thesauri, with alternate search terms suggested, which can be searched on with a mouse-click. Thesauri choices include Library of Congress and MeSH.

ProCite® and EndNote® compatibility - results can be saved in a variety of formats and even exported to bibliographic management packages such as ProCite and EndNote.

Alerts - enable you to stay current on your favorite subjects. You can save your searches, set the frequency of your updates, and have an email alert sent to the addresses you choose.

OpenURL - compatibility with all major OpenURL link resolvers. OpenURL links may be embedded within results citations, enabling users to easily find e-articles with a mouse click.

The EOS.Web Federated Search module can also optionally feature the ability to manage your personal Federated Search environment. With this optional functionality you can configure your favorite database menus, build alerts, save searches and even customize the look and feel.
